Justin Roiland, co-creator of Rick and Morty and founder of High on Life Studio Squanch Games, has been charged with felony domestic violence and wrongful imprisonment in California.As reported by NBC News (opens in new tab)the charges relate to criminal charges filed in May 2020 for events that occurred in January 2020, the proceedings of which have not been publicly reported to date.
The plaintiff in the case is anonymous Jane Doe, who was dating Roiland at the time of the incident, which reportedly occurred around January 19, 2020. Roiland was then arrested and in August she was released on a $50,000 bail before pleading not guilty in October 2020.
According to court records, Roiland was ordered to harass the plaintiff, stay no closer than 100 feet from the plaintiff, and was required by the court to surrender his firearm. Further details of the case have remained sealed and no trial date has been set. The details have not been made public at this time.
Roiland is best known as the co-creator of the popular Adult Swim animated series Rick and Morty and Dan Harmon. He recently entered the world of games and founded the studio Squanch Games in 2016.
