If an MMO survives seven years in today’s tough service games sceneâwhich chews up and spits out games like a dragon feasting on an underleveled raid partyâthen it must be doing something right. Free-to-play fantasy sandbox MMO Albion Online has grown immeasurably since its debut back in 2017, and today enjoys a nearly 80% positive ranking on Steam from the 71,000 people who have reviewed it.
Now, for the first time Albion Online is opening a brand-new server for Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa, expanding its welcoming gameplay loop to a whole new audience who can claim a piece of Albion for themselves. Forge stories of kinship and camaraderie with your guild, seize territories, and dive into a fully player-driven economy in one of the sleeper hit MMOs of the last decade.
Here are just some of the things that Europe-based players can look forward to doing in Albion Online.
Explore a world with seven years’ worth of content
It’s great being one of the early settlers in a new MMO, but you know what’s also good? Joining an established one several years down the line once its world has been balanced, refined, and expanded with tons of content. Spanning two continents, there are five distinct biomes in Albion Onlineâranging from impressive steppes best explored on horseback, to rugged highlandsâand daunting PvP zones like the Outlands and Hellgates, where fine rewards await those willing to take the biggest risks.
It’s an impressive world just waiting to be explored, letting you experience that special joy of diving into an epic fantasy world for the first time.
Embrace the player-driven economy
One of the most unique things about Albion Online is its massive focus on player economy. Every wearable item and weapon in the game is crafted by players and traded by players. The economy is affected by organic supply-and-demand, as well as the PvP system, whereby players can loot equipment off their fallen foes.Â
Everything you do has an impact. It’s a robust, fluctuating economy in which crafting and trade-oriented players can thrive as much as high-level adventurers, offering a ton of agency to those who want to engage in its deep mercantilism systems (as well as those seeking glory on the battlefield).
Claim and conquerÂ
Speaking of battlefields, the territorial lay of the land is always shifting in Albion Online, as guilds seek to expand their territory in the Outlands in battles for resources, land, and glory. As a member of a Guild, you may be called into war with another guild, with large-scale conflicts taking place as guild commanders organise their troops to outwit the enemy.Â
Forge alliances, call for truces, and negotiate territorial splits in ways that favour your side and meet your side’s need for precious resources.
Build an island paradiseÂ
Away from the adventures and tribulations of guild wars, you can kick back on your very own island, which you can buy from the Island Merchant at any of the Royal Cities. Here, you can seek respite (or retirement) from the hardships of daily life in Albion, raising animals, building farmsteads, and of course building a home for yourself (no need to worry about PvP raiders turning up and shattering your peace).
Beyond the practical stuff like mills, alchemical labs, and farming structures, you can beautify your home with hundreds of items and furnishings, making your island retreat truly your own.
Forge your own path!Â
Sandbox freedom has always been the philosophy behind Albion Online, and with so much content now under its belt, Albion Online has all the tools and systems for you to really find your own way in the world. There is no class system, so you can shift over from being a damage-sponge tank to fire-flinging mage with ease, or head over to the anvil to start your career as a smithy. Meanwhile, out in the world, dozens of dungeons, formidable bosses, and interdimensional realms beyond the bounds of Albion itself await those bold enough to seek them out.
Albion Online launches in Europe on PC and mobile April 29, with a fresh new server waiting to be shaped by intrepid new adventurers just like you. Learn more about the Albion Europe server here, and download the game (for FREE) here.Â
