With more and more people spending a lot of time at their desks, mouse pads can fail (opens in new tab) increased exponentially. Perpetrators like pizza grease, soda, or other mystery stains will inevitably invade your mouse pad at some point. As someone who ate a whole grilled cheese seconds before a video conference, I understand that. Desk occurs.ultimately means food upon Desk happens.
Nothing is certain except death, taxes, and a dirty mouse pad.
How to properly care for your mouse pad
First, there are specific places to keep your mouse pad off in case you’re thinking of cleaning it off your desk. Avoid drying in the sun as the color may fade. Do not put in dishwasher, washing machine or dryer. Excessive foaming and extreme heat are detrimental to rubber and plastics.
There is some debate about the proper way to clean a soft surface or cloth mouse pad. The reason we advise against using the washing machine or dishwasher is that this kind of mouse pad is easily damaged. Not all spin cycles are created equal, so even low tumble settings in certain washers and dryers can warp and damage the rubber strips on the mouse pad (many cloth mouse pads have some sort of textured rubber base to hold the pad in place). use). Also, the surface should be clean and smooth in order for the mouse to glide properly without problems.
Wisdom from Katie
A note about the included hydrophobic mouse pad. Allozzi Arena Gaming Desk (opens in new tab)I was able to use chemical cleaners (the kind that soak up after drying) and completely ruin mine. Be smart like Jorge.
Even if you own a machine-washable mouse pad, be careful and follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions closely.
Heat is also your enemy. The rubber used in most mouse pads has a fairly low melting point. This means that putting it in the microwave, blowing it up with a hair dryer, or spinning it in hot water are all terrible ideas.
Our best recommendation for cleaning a cloth gaming mouse pad is to use dish soap, warm water, a sponge or washcloth, and good old elbow grease to scrub away dirt. Then air dry. If you’re using a plastic or hard-surfaced mouse pad, a damp washcloth will help.
How to clean your mouse pad as recommended by the manufacturer
We asked Corsair and HyperX, makers of comically sized cloth mouse pads, about their best practices for cleaning mouse pads. We both agree on a simple hand wash and a washing machine is not a good idea.
“Most people clean their mouse pads with soap and water and let them air dry,” says HyperX. “We do not recommend putting it in the washing machine to clean.”
“Very lukewarm water, just a little liquid dish soap in the sink,” Corsair recommends. “Then gently rinse in cold water and don’t put it in the washing machine.”
