In September, we invited fans to Transformers Beyond Reality. It’s an immersive VR experience where players battle alongside their favorite Autobots as humans to save the planet from extinction. An exciting arcade-style first-person shooter with epic battles against hordes of Insecticons and Decepticons. Now PlayStation VR2 players can roll out and enjoy the enhanced action.
We are very grateful for the positive feedback we have received from this passionate community. We listened to PS VR players and improved the graphics as requested. Evolving our games to PS VR2 and taking advantage of all that this incredible device has to offer to build enhanced experiences is amazing.
“Last fall, Transformers: Beyond Reality gave Transformers fans a new, immersive VR experience. “

You’ll notice a significant quality improvement in Transformers Beyond Reality for PS VR2. Here are some ways to leverage evolving technology to improve the overall player experience.
Enhances and balances the experience with improved visuals and 70+ fps performance
Building a console game always involves balancing framerate and visual fidelity. This is even more important in virtual reality media, where frame rate drops can make an enjoyable experience physically uncomfortable.
PS VR2 eliminates and minimizes these concerns. Our team was very pleased as we added more detail to models and textures, enhanced reflections, and added atmospheric and visual effects with seemingly no limits. It was liberating.
Over 30 enhanced gameplay moments and cinematics
This extra performance has a huge impact on gameplay. Because better looking games and higher frame rates are easier to enjoy. We were able to add and enhance over 30 moments to make the game more engaging. Many of those moments were interactive (such as the notable scene where the main enemy uses the environment against the player). Special care was taken to ensure that the action occurred close to the player. For example, in his 110-degree field of view in PS VR2, you can immediately see how big Optimus his Prime, Grimlock, and Megatron really are against the player.
Enhanced haptic feedback elevates the action
When developing a VR game, it can be difficult to properly convey game information to the player. Heads-up displays (HUDs) are useful, but not very effective in VR. As an enhancement to Transformers Beyond Reality, we’ve changed the ammo counter display to allow the player to feel reload timing through the PS VR2 Sense controller’s adaptive he trigger resistance.
Our biggest finding was that we were able to enhance the way players were informed that they were being attacked from off-screen. I tried a red flash, but it wasn’t effective because there was a lot already happening on the screen. Every time the player is hit, they feel this information via the headset’s haptics. This is a natural and intuitive enhancement.
We are very pleased to have the opportunity to improve the experience of Transformers Beyond Reality by responding to fan requests. Get ready and let’s sortie!
