Quasimorphosis is a roguelike survival horror game that blends tactical shootouts with space station dungeon crawling. Set in a post-cyberpunk corporate future, it’s the kind of world you wouldn’t want to have kids.
It was first released for free earlier this year as a complete and finished roguelike proof-of-concept.called Subform: Exodium (opens in new tab)is still free, but the development team, MgnmScrptmDvs, has teamed up with HypeTrain Digital to publish the full version of the game.
In it, you take control of a private military contractor to track down dark secrets and âunforgivable things that humanity has committed in the deep dark depths of space.â That includes “creatures from parallel dimensions” that are “threats to all life.” Classic.
It’s a cool sounding concept where you travel the solar system on a PMC ship and discover things like “planetary bases, secret laboratories, spacecraft wreckage and other points of interest” to discover new guns, new tech and other sweet stuff. Earn loot. , a new biological enhancement. These bases are part of an inter-corporate political system, where big dogs like you have to balance how well you do with your mission.
What’s great is that it’s a roguelike game with dangerously high stakes and randomized hits, yet balances tactical combat with the ability to copy your operative’s memories to disk. Therefore, valuable characters and their experience can be recovered into clone bodies.
Other mechanics, such as the ever-changing battlefield and character specialization, have intriguing hints. Some of it can be found in Slash’s first game, his Exordium demo Slash Proof of Concept. We’ll know more when the proper Quasimorphosis is released “soon”.
You can find free game slash demos. Subform: Exodium (opens in new tab) On Steam, you can find the sequel’s Slash expansion release page under the relatively simple name Quasimorphosis. (opens in new tab)
