Players excited to finally experience 2013’s The Last of Us on PC aren’t so thrilled by the fact that they’ll have to experience what the 2013 PC port was like. (I’m looking at you, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West.) But Naughty Dog’s efforts to patch up the wayward kid have yielded some improvements.
The latest patch updates The Last of Us Part 1 to v1.0.3.0 and adds audio compatibility options to prevent music and dialogue in cutscenes from being too quiet or “popping, clicking, or distorting.” sound”, and finally I can reassign the arrow keys.
This is a bigger deal than it might sound to an avid WASD user like myself, but unobtrusive arrow keys are a popular alternative, especially among left-handed players.The Last of Us Part 1 provided the option to select the old cursor movement keys as the primary method of interacting with Joel, but still retained the previous functionality of inventory selection. This meant that every button press and move would also cycle through the nasty item selection menu.
This was finally fixed, as was the “in-game texture quality appears lower than target quality setting” issue. The shader compilation progress tracker has also been updated to “track progress more evenly”. Also, doing a quick turn while grappling will no longer cause enemies to T-pose.

- Added new audio compatibility options ([オプション]>[オーディオ]>[互換性])
- Output mode: Adjusts sounds played through the OS spatial sound driver. If the sound is muffled, inaudible, or unusually quiet, choose a different setting. For example, if you experience unusually quiet music or dialogue during cutscenes, try spatial mode instead of the hybrid default.
- Latency: Adjusts the short amount of time between when a sound effect is requested and when it is played. Higher latency means more reliable audio playback, especially on lower spec CPUs. Increase this value if you experience pops, clicks, or distorted sounds. High latency also solves the problem of audio interfaces configured with large buffer sizes and some wireless headphones. Note: The game must be restarted for this change to take effect.
- Updated keyboard and mouse (KBM) controls to allow players to reassign arrow keys
- Updated the “Building Shaders %” user interface (UI) to track progress more evenly.
- Restored end credits audio accessible from main game, Left Behind and Extras menus
- Fixed a crash that could occur when trying to restart or quit the game after opening a collection in the backpack UI
- Fixed a crash that could occur when (long) sitting or entering a combat area
- Fixed an issue where in-game texture quality would appear lower than the target quality setting

- Fixed an issue where enemy NPCs could do a T-pose if Joel performed a single input quick turn while holding an enemy
- Fixed an issue where toggling the player character’s flashlight could momentarily visibly change the environment
- Fixed an issue where lighting could appear broken when using a flashlight in low light
- Fixed an issue where Ultra settings would show lighting and fog at low resolution
- Fixed VRAM usage UI not updating correctly when lowering display resolution
- Fixed an issue that caused water reflections to appear corrupted or pixelated
- Fixed Quicktime Events UI prompt not rendering with minimum spec settings
- Fixed an issue that could cause unintended camera shifts when moving left or right quickly while aiming
- Fixed an issue where collectible tracks in Steam and Epic clients did not match in-game collectible tracks, preventing achievements from unlocking
- Fixed an issue where player animations would sometimes play incorrectly when playing at higher FPS
- [Photo Mode] Fixed screen reader not registering KBM ‘move’ and ‘rotate’ inputs
- [Photo Mode] Fixed an issue where the performance stats heads-up display (HUD) was visible even when the menu was hidden.

- [Tommy’s Dam] Fixed an issue that caused players to pick up El Diablo guns and lock camera movement when interacting with the Training Manual.
- [The University] Fixed an issue that caused the melee prompt to disappear while fighting an enemy NPC after Joel kicked the door open
- [Lakeside Resort] Fixed an issue that caused loading screens to appear during combat
- [Lakeside Resort] Fixed an issue that prevented players from fist fighting after David’s boss fight
- [Bus Depot] Fixed an issue where some of the geometry would break or explode
