hello! I’m Daniel, the creator of Inscryption. We’re back to explain some of his PlayStation-exclusive features implemented in the PS5 version!Inscryption becomes even more immersive with his clever use of a controller and a drop or two of goat blood. I was able to make something
Spoiler alert first! Of course, nothing reveals the game’s darkest secrets, but if you want to dive into a completely fresh console experience, proceed with caution.
Let’s start with the control itself. The good news is that the controls have been completely redesigned for gamepad comfort. Inscryption was originally designed as a mouse-driven point-and-click adventure, but moving a virtual cursor with an analog stick wasn’t good enough for console players, so it went back to the drawing board. It was hard work.
Now you can snap between views with the analog stick, use face buttons to inspect and play cards, and press adaptive triggers to end turns. The controller feels great and I’m really happy with the results. But what about exploration? In the cabin itself, certain interactable objects are bound to hotkeys for easy access. However, some hotkey prompts are hidden to keep the curiosity of not knowing what responds to your input.
New controls aren’t the only thing we’ve been working on. The DualSense wireless controller also has some fun features.
First, a light bar adds some dramatic effects to Inscryption, matching ambient lighting in-game, flashing orange when Recie speaks, and shocking when certain traumatic events occur. It turns red. Speaking of traumatic events, we’ve also designed specific haptics that match the on-screen action so closely – it’s like pulling a tooth out!
Other tactile features include a light controller rumble related to the position of the next card to select, and various rumbles as pieces enter and leave the table. Feel the heavy Sacrifice Stone slam into the table.
Last but not least, the adaptive trigger provides just enough resistance to push the bell to end your turn. Some key decisions, such as deciding which card to sacrifice to the Bone Lord, resist the index finger to make the final decision. It’s a moment of turning back or making you feel guilty.
Well, that’s it. We hope these new features add even more fun to Inscryption on PlayStation 5. Playing at night with the lights off is perfect for this 😉
