The wait for a new entry into the Crash Bandicoot franchise is finally over! Crash Team Rumble is an all-new spin on the Crash Formula that pits players in epic 4v4 competitions. Each team aims to collect and bank more Wumpa fruits than the other team. Unpack and experiment with Crash Team Rumble, including many unique and diverse heroes, equippable powers to alter your loadout, and maps with specific relic stations that can wreak havoc on the enemy team. there are a lot of. With all the crazy chaos you’d expect from a Clash hero or villain, the first step in understanding how Rumble works is learning your character’s role (scorer, blocker, booster).
scorer character
The name of the game is Win Wumpa! Scorers like Crush are speedy heroes who can easily move around the map, collecting Wumpa fruits and relics to aid their team. Protecting your scorers is essential to victory, as they provide the majority of your team’s scoring power!
blocker character
The best attack is a good defense! Blocker is great at taking down opponents and defending his Wumpa Bank on the team. They are extremely powerful combat characters, able to easily take down multiple enemies at once and still maintain their own.
booster character
Support your team by improving your score! Booster is a specialist whose purpose is to capture the various gems he pads scattered across each map in order to increase his team’s score. Controlling clusters of Gempads can turn the tide in one fell swoop, earning more points for each of her Wumpa Fruits delivered to the Wumpa Bank.
To get a better sense of how the developers themselves feel about each hero’s role, we asked Lou Studdert, Associate Creative Director of Toys For Bob, what impact each role has on the game.
What roles do you tend to play?
Lou Studdert: Each role brings something new to the table, but scorer characters tend to come first. They’re balanced and give you the tools to play however you like, whether you’re collecting Wumpa or plaguing other teams.
Do you have the hardest role to play against?
Blockers can pose a bit of a problem for newer players. If you’ve been playing a booster or scorer and have a hard time fighting blockers head-on, remember you’re not alone! Enlist your teammates and don’t be afraid to step back to fight another day. A hero with high mobility can easily collect relics on each map and consume them at his station to gain an advantage.
Do you play the same role every time, or do you change your strategy?
Usually we gravitate toward boosters, but it depends on our mood! Sometimes we want to wreak havoc with Dingodile or drop pianos with Cortex. Thankfully, you always have the option to change characters from match to match, so it’s always easy to try out a different playstyle if you feel the need to freshen things up.
