Crystal Dynamics is preparing to end active development of Marvel’s Avengers a little over two years after its initial release. It said it was a decision “made in collaboration with our partners.”
According to a blog titled “Final update on the future of Marvel’s Avengers” Support ends on September 30th, after which digital purchases will no longer be available. All solo content will remain playable after support ends, and multiplayer will continue to be available.

Crystal Dynamics has no plans to release new stories, features, or heroes, and update 2.7 (which adds Winter Soldier and Clone Lab Omega-level threats) will be the final content release for Avengers. Spider-Man remains his PlayStation exclusive.
The final balance update will be Update 2.8, which will be released on March 31st. After that, Crystal Dynamics says it will turn off the cosmetics market and you will no longer be able to buy credits. Your credit balance will be converted into in-game resources and all cosmetic items will be available for free.
big disappointment
When Marvel’s Avengers was first revealed, we called it one of the biggest disappointments of E3 2019, but it did a little better when it released the following year, garnering moderate reviews from both players and critics. Soon the player count dropped significantly as players got bored and moved on.
Crystal Dynamics continued to release new content, including several new characters, but never regained momentum after its troubled launch.
Community Insider Miller Ross First, we broke the news that Marvel’s Avengers was shutting down and the team was being moved to Amazon Games’ Tomb Raider project. The report also claims Crystal Dynamics lead his designer Brian Wagoner fired after a series of tweets from 2014 were spotted in his November. Leading to public denial from the studio.
Crystal Dynamics, which reached out for comment on the report, provided a link to the blog and did not make any further statement.
“We know this is disappointing news as everyone in our community has a deep connection to these characters and their stories,” Crystal Dynamics wrote on its website. We’re so grateful that you’ve joined us on this adventure, from epic photomode shots to a thread theorizing who our next hero might be, Twitch Until the stream, your excitement for Marvel’s Avengers played a big part in bringing this game to life.”
