Former Dragon Age producer and BioWare veteran Mark Dollar thinks: Microsoft Activision While the merger is “probably bad in the long run,” we hope it will bring short-term benefits to Activision Blizzard. The company has suffered a considerable fall from grace under the leadership of CEO Bobby Kotick, who has been accused of fostering a hostile work culture and poor leadership.
Why the Microsoft Activision merger isn’t good news for the industry
Integration ultimately stifles creativity, according to Darrah, who spent 23 years at BioWare before retiring in 2021.and YouTube Q&A (via tweak town), he said companies will ultimately need to control costs and that their cost-cutting efforts will lead to less risk-taking.
Consolidation is probably a bad thing in the long run. Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision-Blizzard is good in the short term. Because Activision-Blizzard culturally seems like someone needs to go there with a leaf blower and wipe out the dark corners of things. Because once you have enough control, you want to control your costs. That usually means less creativity and less risk taking. Possibly bad in the long run, but good in the short term for Activision-Blizzard.
