Gamers claim Microsoft Activision deal ‘reduces consumer choice’
As reported by Bloomberg methodthe antitrust lawsuit was filed in San Francisco, with plaintiffs alleging that Microsoft’s control over the iconic franchise limits consumer choice and affects pricing.
“The proposed acquisition will give Microsoft an unparalleled position in the gaming industry with a legacy of numerous must-have games and iconic franchises,” the complaint reads. Microsoft has again defended its position, telling Bloomberg Law that the reality is quite the opposite. “This deal will increase competition and create more opportunities for gamers and game developers as we strive to bring more games to more people,” the company said in a statement.
The UK and EU are in the spotlight as Microsoft fails to convince regulators that the acquisition will not hurt competition.
