Today on Minecraft Live, a lot of neat details emerged around Minecraft Legends, Mojang’s real-time third-person strategic spin-off of the ever-popular blocky world. Knowing that Minecraft Legends will launch in the spring of 2023, we’ve got two cinematic trailers and a lengthy four-player gameplay of him as a team attacks a Piglin base.
In it, two developers from Mojang and two from Blackbird Interactive assemble a team of overworld mobs and use them to attack invading piglins. It also shows how resource gathering works as alleys collect resources for the player to build.
Alleys are auto-built for players who can choose from a variety of pre-designed structures to place in the world. It also has spawners that players use to recruit units such as golems, zombies, and creepers to fight invading piglins.
Legends of Minecraft was announced this year. It’s a kind of third-person action RTS, similar to Nintendo’s Pikmin and Codemasters’ Overlord series. We knew we’d be leading the Overworld against Nether invasion monsters, we knew there was multiplayer, but this is the first time we’ve seen up to four players working together. Whether or not there will be crossplay remains to be seen, but Mojang has finally added it to its spin-off Minecraft Dungeons, at least between Xbox and PC.
The entire presentation includes a trailer embedded above and a lengthy introductory trailer featuring developer Jens.you can see The entire Minecraft Legends segment on YouTube (opens in new tab)but I have selected the following times and started Immediately after starting the game (opens in new tab).
That’s a lot! Not just all sorts of neat new mobs like the new golems, but wild and weird piglin enemies like the lava launcher, some kind of crazy centaur pig, and… jewel pigs? But the variety of interactions available is pretty cool and speaks well to Legend’s actual strategic and tactical level.
