Paddle through ice caves in Antarctica, kayak with dolphins in Costa Rica, overcome a thunderstorm in Norway and discover the canyons of Australia. Created specifically for VR, the kayaking game lets you explore real-world locations with photorealistic graphics. And with Kayak VR: Mirage joining his PS VR2 launch line-up, it looks better than ever on PS VR2.
The perfect showcase for PS VR2
Kayak VR: Mirage is the perfect game for VR newbies and veterans alike. Compared to most forms of locomotion in VR, paddling is a natural and intuitive way to navigate your environment, making it the perfect game to show off your new headset to friends and family.
In addition to visual fidelity, we also spent a lot of time on the physics of the game. New players can quickly get the hang of kayaking, while more experienced kayakers can operate with the precision you’d expect from a real kayak. This focus on natural physics also applies to the rest of the environment. Plants, floating ice and debris all react realistically to your paddle and kayak.
chill out on the water
When designing the environment, we wanted you to feel like you arrived at the perfect time. Listen to the sound of water crashing at These calming moments are designed to balance out the large amount of high-intensity gaming available in VR and help him relax after a long day or intense gaming session.
Oceans and wildlife are a big part of our design philosophy. See penguins jumping off ice cliffs, turtles swimming from the beach into the ocean, and dolphins swimming sideways as they speed up. You can also catch fish with a paddle. Like a real fish, it swims away dynamically depending on the position and speed of impact.
Immersion and Sound
Sound is essential to an immersive VR experience, so we spent some time looking at the acoustic properties of different locations. The sound of hitting a kayak against rocks is different when you’re in an ice cave than when you’re on the Norwegian coast. The general soundscape also plays an important role in immersing you in the experience. When you get caught in a thunderstorm, it doesn’t just look intense, it sounds intense.
The soundtrack is tuned to change with the time of day and weather conditions. If you’re racing, the harder beats will encourage you to pick up the pace, but paddling under the stars at night in Freeride mode will have a calmer, more ethereal soundtrack.
Where games and sports meet
Do you want to take it easy and enjoy the scenery, or do you want to get sweaty and sweaty? The game has you covered in race mode. Every environment has multiple tracks and you can asynchronously compete with your friends and leaderboard friends. And even if you don’t feel like racing, the game tracks your daily and weekly distance traveled in any mode, so you can challenge yourself to run the distance.
Foveated Rendering and OLED HDR Display for PS VR2
When I first saw the game on PS VR2, the world felt incredibly vivid. Foveated Rendering makes games look sharper than ever, and his OLED HDR screen on PS VR2 brings a new dimension to nighttime levels.
We hope this information gets you excited for the game’s release on February 22nd, 2023! We look forward to seeing you on the water!
