After news of Funko and Mondo’s layoffs led many to believe that Mondo’s poster business would be discontinued, Funko CEO Brian Mariotti tweeted on Mondo’s official Twitter account. A statement was posted, not only to dispel rumors, but also to confirm that they will be running a bigger poster in the future. Fight against scalpers.
Mariotti has said that issuing Mondo’s limited edition posters in bulk will help get the posters to people who want them, as opposed to flippers who buy posters at high prices “just to flip them”. “The posters are created by some of the greatest artists working today,” he says Mariotti. “Our goal is to create a large edition size (limited but not ultra-limited) so that more fans can participate.”
In a statement, Mariotti called the frenzy surrounding the demise of Mondo’s poster business “misinformation,” noting that “Most of the company-wide layoffs weren’t Mondo.” He then continues by confirming that Mondo’s poster business will “continue.”
Statement then moved to the record business, which Mariotti said will also expand in the coming months. According to a post at the time, the company was planning to build an approximately 70,000-square-foot facility in San Diego that would house a record pressing factory, record store and live music event space.
“We are 100% committed to providing the Mondo people with the best possible support,” concludes Mariotti.
