In MultiVersus’ debut season, its meta is largely undecided. Player First Games regularly rolls out patches and hotfixes that shake up the character’s power dynamics. This includes recent adjustments to Finn’s crappy backpack attack. We share a tier list of our diverse roster of 18 characters, but expect these rankings to change on a regular basis.
Also introduced throughout the season are four new characters, including two members of the Gremlins, DC Super and Rick Sanchez. This list is written from the perspective of the average player, but high-level and professional play is taken into account.
MultiVersus Tier List Season 1
Tier S
bugs bunny
King of cheese. Whether you’re in the top 30 of the leaderboard or in the middle like me, running into bugs in a 2v2 is scary but predictable. The most popular pick among the best of his MultiVersus players has proven to be Snarky Wabit (opens in new tab) He can do it all: smash your face up close with a bat, send screen-filling ACME rockets across stages, punt airborne enemies deep into cartoon hell, and summon pies at will To do. He’s the whole package, but probably not for long. His entire suite of aerial attacks season 1 patch (opens in new tab)and at this rate, further tweaks are likely to follow.
fin
prince of cheese. Finn isn’t as smart as Bugs, but that’s what makes him dangerous. His sword provides a longer basic attack than many of the fist punchers on the MultiVersus roster. He can also charge his attacks on the move, which helps him bait dodges from nervous Superman wherever he goes. Spamming pack attacks is still an easy technique.
Tier A
Batman
I’ve yet to see a player better at staying face to face than Batman’s main. Play casually and you can unleash fun combos that apply debuffs to your enemies. Getting a little more serious, he scuttles across the stage every few seconds and lands a quick kick in his face. Despite Batarang’s increased cooldown, he excels at closing his distance with ranged charges and decisive strikes.
Superman
You might think Superman’s multiversal powers come from super strength, quick punches, and ice breaths, but when it comes to Man of Steel, it’s all about his side special grabs. When you see a blue man in red pants flying towards you, run towards the hill. If his grab is connected and he’s near the edge of the stage, it’s already finished. It’s a reliable way to punish aggressive players.
Shaggy
EVO Champion Nakat said it best when he called Shaggy the “Mario of MultiVersus.” He’s an all-rounder: a reliable brawler at close range with some very powerful moves (his neutral attacks, down airs, and side specials are all easy finishers even against sub-100 damage foes. ), and that’s before he charges his Ultra.Instinct form, which boosts his attack and applies a full stack of Weaken. In my book, he has the best ratio of fun to play and ease of winning, but don’t expect experienced players to get caught up in his slow attacks.
Layer B
Morty
Morty just debuted on MultiVersus, but clearly has a lot of potential as a Bruiser/Mage hybrid. His long-range laser attacks aren’t as reliable or deadly as Velma’s stabbing word bubble, but Morty’s utility belt of gadgets allows him to attack from a distance without Tom and Jerry’s elaborate tennis volley setup. While Morty has a live grenade, his next laser always hits it and detonates it. Morty is a bit slow at melee range (his neutral side attack is similar to Jake) and probably won’t get much use out of his weird Plumbus move, but his adaptability makes him a quick 2v2 become a favorite.
Velma
Velma’s dominance in EVO speaks for itself, but the mid-tier reveals her inherent difficulty as a ranged support character. ‘s unique abilities are notable (and annoying), but her limited melee options make her an easy bully unless she’s professionally supported by aggressive teammates. Velma is weak in solo queue, but she gets stronger when she connects with her partner via voice chat.
harley quinn
Harley Quinn plays like the Assassin equivalent of Shaggy. Easy to pick up with powerful combos, but simple enough to easily counter. It’s a tough life for an unnamed assassin character named Finn, and his 14% increase in damage taken means less room for mistakes. Also, besides the fact that her confetti her blaster and pop her guns are very happy to land, there are characters that are more reliable and less squeeze hitting just as hard.
iron giant
Speaking of being bullied, the Iron Giant is in a similar boat. Against teams that haven’t adjusted their playstyle to counter him, the gentle giant has his feet across the dueling duo with monster special attacks, a crater-like bat stomp, and a scrapball projectile that doubles as a melee attack. His size works against him as soon as enemies realize his massive hitbox is an all-access pass to hitstun him.
Jake
This stretchy doeball may be the most versatile close-range brawler, but it’s not as annoying as Finn, so you wouldn’t know it. It’s easy to dodge, but it’s especially good at punishing both enemies with a single blow because it swings in a wide radius (e.g. Neutral Up is an ax shop that swings a full 180 degrees around him). A stretchy air that can be aimed across his third of the screen A neutral that can literally style his punches and opponents desperate to jump to safety His down his skate board. He has issues with some of the characters higher on this list, but a good Jake can get around that.
lebron james
I didn’t expect LeBron James playing basketball to sport one of the most diverse and hardest to master movesets on MultiVersus. His entire contract hinges on keeping the basketball, and while it’s tempting to pass a boulder to a buddy or bounce it off an opponent for a quick rebound, the punishment for missing the ball is huge. LeBron has lost most of his power and has to hit with some of the slowest moves in the game to regain it. Not someone you choose when you are.
garnet
A down-to-earth garnet punch can instill fear of the gods. Iron Like her Giant, Average needs a few things to enjoy her in her matches, and like Jake she’s slow. She struggles to keep up with popular characters like Finn and Bugs, leaving her with few options to close the distance.
Layer C
tom and jerry
The hardest characters to play in MultiVersus also happen to be the coolest. Playing Tom and Jerry seriously means always thinking about future offensive settings. A fully charged tennis ball can snipe enemies from across the map into oblivion, but only if you position Jerry, pass the ball, and time your return lob perfectly. Deploying one of these elaborate mousetraps is satisfying, but not recommended for casual players who just want to punch guys. T&J is one of the few characters with a high skill floor and an even higher skill ceiling. The EVO co-champion made his Void work against his Bugs/Velma combo in dominance.
Arya Stark
As a fellow assassin, Arya has the same 14% health debuff as Harley and a difficult moveset to get used to. As true to character as she is, Arya is a precise and pokey fighter who makes the difference between life and death through her ability to dodge backstabs and deal bonus damage. She doesn’t bother me much in 1v1, but in groups her single attacks get in the way. There’s clearly a high skill ceiling here that the average player hasn’t reached yet.
wonder woman
A tank that truly gets the job done, Wonder Woman relies on inflicting pain while her teammates supply her armor. Nakat made great use of armor in his EVO 2022, but without solid team dynamics, MultiVersus’ default free unlock doesn’t do much. It’s no wonder it’s not popular, as it doesn’t have any particularly flashy combos and doesn’t have a class that’s easy to play early on.
rain dog
One of MultiVersus’ few true support characters, Reindog isn’t usually a smart choice. He keeps his distance and tractors He is all about supporting his allies with beams and fireballs, but knowing enemies won’t let him escape. Reindog defaults to an afterthought, as it has nowhere to run in the flat, featureless arena of MultiVersus. That being said, he’s particularly good at hitting hard (albeit slowly) and ringing enemies that have already been beaten to pulp.
Taz
I was one of the MultiVersus players during launch week and wanted Taz nerfed. He’s still a fun and easy-to-get character, but without the Tornado Spin pre-nerf bite, the rest of his kit isn’t as impressive.
Layer D
steven universe
Steven has a similar struggle as Line Dog. He’s really a fighter rather than a lover who can’t avoid a fight. The best thing Steven can do right now is give both himself and his teammates an instant bubble shield (on cooldown). But in the hands of most players, Stephen simply takes responsibility for claiming his 4 shares.

We’re not sure where these new fighters will fit in, but with Morty out the door, it could be Rick next. , I think the mad genius will make use of the show’s iconic portal gun.
