Just in time for One Piece Day, a new trailer for Netflix’s upcoming live-action One Piece series has arrived. Like its manga and anime counterparts, the show’s new perspective kicks off with one of the long-running series’ most iconic moments, when legendary Pirate King Gol D. Roger begins a new golden age of piracy just before his execution by the World Government.
Additionally, the trailer also shows several other faces antagonizing the Straw Hat Crew as Devil Fruit clown Buggy and Fishman Aaron appear in this teaser and threaten Monkey D. Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji. In a letter written by One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda, the legendary manga artist said there was “no compromise” on the show, and that his creative input helped shape its direction, even leading to several reshoots to fit his and the production crew’s vision.
“There was a lot going into the film, including the efforts of the actors, the construction of the worldview and costumes, the expressions that can only be done in live-action, and the dialogue.
“One Piece” stars Godoy Inaki as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skyler as Sanji, and will be released on Netflix on August 31st. Additional cast members include Vincent Regan, Ilya Isorellis Paulino, Morgan Davis, Aidan Scott, Langley Kirkwood, Jeff Ward, Celeste Roots, Alexander Maniatis and McKinley.
