Umbrella Academy will be its fourth season and the show’s final season. Based on the Gerald Way comic of the same name, the series premiered in 2019. It follows his seven super-powered brothers who must save the world from the apocalypse, albeit in completely different circumstances each time. The latest season premiered this summer.
“Unbelievably loyal fans Umbrella Academy We will experience a fitting conclusion to the journey that began five years ago for the Hargreaves brothers,” said showrunner Steve Blackman in a press release. “But before we reach that conclusion, we have a great storyline ahead for Season 4 that will keep fans in their seats until the final minutes.”
At the end of season 3 — spoilers! —The Hargreaves brothers ended up in a reality where they had no powers whatsoever. But at least they’re all together! In many cases. So far Elliott Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Ritu Aria and Colm Fiore are returning.
One notable name missing is Genesis Rodriguez, who plays Sloane Hargreaves. In season 3, the Umbrella Academy ended up in a world where her domineering father adopted her seven other superpowered children and named Sparrow her Academy. Sloan was one of them. She survived to the end of the season, but was missing from the final scene.
There are a lot of loose ends that have to be wrapped up in the final season. The show has already moved away from comics. Wei and Blackman agree to consider them separate entities. So if you’re looking at the comics as a way to predict where this final season will go, you’re probably going to have a hard time.
