Hello, I’m Bannon Rudis. I’m one of WayForward’s directors. WayForward does Shantae and River City Girls games and much more. I personally have been making River City games for about 10 years with Arc System Works. First, we reverse-engineered the River City sprites and animations, trying hard to figure out how to animate them. This led me down the path of game development. But I know you’re not here for me Marian, one of River City Girls 2’s new playable her characters, is the main attraction in this article, so soon Let’s dive in.
Marian has had a long and storied career as a damsel in distress. For decades, she was publicly beaten in the streets, kidnapped by dark criminal gangs, held hostage in exchange for magic stones, and gunned down (she was later revived). Needless to say, she took it pretty rough. Oh yeah, I almost forgot that her friends Billy and Jimmy fought to the death over who to date. It’s a little too much.

Times have changed and so has Marian. No longer is she a street thug, a rogue, a maniacal skeleton, a helpless victim of her wizard. Over the years, Marian has trained her body to reject the physical and emotional abuse she has unwillingly received over the past few decades. A punch was but a faint memory of old Marian.
Two of Marian’s many facial expressions. Something mysterious seems to be going on!
Marian learned how to box and wrestle. She didn’t want to be classified as the “slow but mighty wrestler” type. Her quick punches and grappling moves make her a very unique fighter, but she is also very relatable.
Marian from the original River City Girls. By many requests, she has grown from a humble shopkeeper into a playable character in her RCG2!
Marian’s current River City Girls design appeared in the first River City Girls game of 2019. Players and fans of the series were immediately drawn to this new interpretation of Marian. She was a fan favorite and a natural choice as her one of the sequel’s new playable characters. Marian also bridges the narrowing gap between Double Her Dragon and River City Her series. The licensee, Arc System Works, did this, and they were very supportive of the decision.
Explore one of Marian’s powerful moves, the KO Cutter, frame by frame.
Although she is a grappler, she is not necessarily slower than other characters and has a variety of moves, which makes her very versatile. These moves are great for damaging single enemies, plus lots of splash damage to take out crowds near her.
Marian unleashes a combo that launches enemies into the air, then sends them back to Earth with Air Pancakes.
She also has several high-flying moves that help her launch her into swarms of enemies from above, using the Party Crusher move. You can launch her forward quickly, use it as an anti-air spinning attack, or drop her elbow piston special airborne if you wait until the last second to stop spinning. Attack on unsuspecting enemies under her.
Another special is the Command Grab, which only works when you’re between two enemies within range. Mind Meld is done by Marian grabbing enemies on both sides and ramming them face-to-face. If she uses that move on a single opponent, she does an Irish Whip instead (a silly move in professional wrestling where her opponent can’t stop running after being pushed into the ropes) . This allows Marian to attack while vulnerable.
Marian proves that two heads are better than one with her skull-splitting Mind Meld and KO Cutter!
And finally, there’s her KO cutter. This move is a blistering straight punch that can knock out several enemies in front of you. Alternatively, if the timing is right, you can charge the move by holding down the special button until it automatically unleashes. has the advantage of
Another useful move in Marian’s Arsenal is the Carousel Toss. This will not only damage the enemy you throw it at, but will also damage any enemy that unfortunately gets in your way!
Marian is very different from other playable characters in the game, but everyone should be able to pick it up easily and get used to it quickly. Our new characters Marian and Provi were both very fun characters to play, so personally, I would overhaul their playstyles so that the original characters could keep up with the coolness of the newcomers. We hope you enjoy playing as Marian, Provie, and the returning characters (who shined in the sequel) just as they did when they first appeared on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. is.
