San Diego Comic-Con has always been one of the most exciting times for Marvel fans. We had a great time with his original Marvel’s Spider-Man in 2018 and we were so happy to be back in Hall H today to talk about what’s next. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. For those who couldn’t attend, I’ll summarize what happened.
We wanted to kick off the panel with a bang and show off our latest story trailer. please look!
The trailer sets the game’s story while also giving us our first full look at Marvel’s New York’s giant Venom. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Senior Narrative Director John Puckett goes into more depth.
“Spider-Man is at the top of the game at the beginning of the story,” Puckett said. “But both Peter Parker and Miles Morales have struggled with their personal lives. Miles is trying to find time to write his college admissions essay, but procrastinates and focuses instead on spider work. Meanwhile, Peter is behind on his Aunt May’s house, which he can’t sell. That means too much to him. And like Miles, Peter tries to find (and fails) the balance of so many responsibilities. MJ tries to find Pete’s mortgage. but her job is in jeopardy as J. Jonah Jameson returns to Bugle to clean the house.Our heroes are at a crossroads with an uncertain future and some tough decisions to make.”
When the Kraven hunters arrive in the city, the mystery arises as to why they are there and who is hunting what. But as Spider-Man and MJ delve deeper into Kraven’s motives, the symbiote begins to threaten Marvel’s New York, and everyone and everything they hold dear.

As many of you may have noticed in the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 gameplay trailer at the PlayStation Showcase back in May, Peter’s new black suit influences his personality, giving him powerful new symbiote abilities. We see some of that in this trailer, too, and see how Peter’s symbiote powers strain his relationship with Miles, MJ, and Harry.

(Spoilers ahead for 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man!) Considering how much Miles Morales respects Peter’s mentorship and guidance, this creates further problems. As well as trying to figure out what happens next in his life, Miles continues to struggle with his father’s death at the hands of Martin Lee, also known as Mister Negative. As you can see from the trailer, we haven’t seen the end of Mister Negative yet.
We asked Senior Creative Director Brian Intihar about the new abilities available to players in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
“We’ve always thought of our spider heroes as ‘acrobatic improvisers,’ and in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 we wanted to equip them with new ways to do so in combat,” said Intihar. This includes Pete’s spider arm and symbiote powers, and Miles brings two forms of bioelectric Venom to every battle he fights. And when he starts combining these abilities with all-new Spider-his gadgets like the Web Grabber, exciting combos can emerge. ”
The trailer also gave us a new look at the expanded Marvel’s New York. You will now be able to explore Brooklyn and Queens across the East River. Coney Island is also making its first appearance in the trailer and we can’t wait for you to explore it! One way you can explore it is through Web Wings. Let’s hear more from Senior Game Director Ryan Smith:
“We’re really excited to see people try Web Wings,” says Smith. “For us, it was a great opportunity to incorporate into the game what people have seen in the cartoons and movies. The swing is the core of Spider-Man’s locomotion, so we designed the Web Wings to work with and complement the swing. Thanks to the power and speed of the PS5, Web Wings adds another layer to our locomotion system and changes the way we look at navigating different parts of the city.”
With the reveal of Venom, we thought it appropriate to show the public a collector’s edition statue for the first time.

We asked both Brian and John about bringing an iconic Marvel character like Venom to life in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
“Our philosophy has always been that we want to honor the history of the series and the DNA of Spider-Man, but at the same time we are not afraid to mix things up,” said Intihar. “The same goes for Venom, one of his iconic characters. While the character’s look and some of his powers/abilities will be familiar to fans, this is a unique Venom story and we are excited for everyone to experience it this October.”
“When we decided to do the Venom story, we knew we were going to change the tone a bit. The best symbiote stories serve as allegories. We all carry darkness within us. But what if we let it take over? The introduction of the symbiote into our series forced our heroes to contend with all forms of darkness,” added Puckett. “We wanted to see them change both inside and out, and feel the effect it had on those around them. And once Venom took over, they would be in real danger of potentially losing themselves and their loved ones forever.”

Venom was brought to life by sensational actor Tony Todd. We have long admired Tony and are so grateful to have been able to play Venom with him. His voice work brings Insomniac’s new monstrous character designs to life. Senior Art Director her Jacinda Chew explains further.
“Our Venom is inspired by comics, but with so many interpretations, it was fun picking one that fit the game,” Chu said. “He has his own take on the white spider icon, complete with human structures. He also has a powerful vine attack that can take many forms. Finding the right balance of liquid and solid in Venom’s material was difficult, because if it’s too watery, it looks weak, and if it’s too solid, it can quickly turn into a tentacle monster. Venom has to look powerful and semi-liquid at the same time.”
We had some other fun news from SDCC. We are thrilled to be working with Tomah Hanukkah, one of my favorite poster artists of his, as well as Marvel Games and Mondo, to create his new Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 poster for his San Diego Comic-Con. The poster depicts Venom fighting Spider-Man in Tomar’s signature art style. Sales of variant screenprints (Edition of 215) are limited to Mondo’s booth at the event (Booth 5137), but Mondo sells Timed His Edition screenprints. on their website!The period is from today until July 23 (Sun)rd At 9:59pm PDT one will be printed for everyone who ordered. There will also be a special promo his edition lithograph signed by the developer and voice actor at the Marvel booth (booth #2329) on Thursday, July 20th.
We also discussed another collaboration with Mondo to release a vinyl soundtrack of the game’s fantastic score by composer John Paesano. Chris Anka graces the record with amazing art currently in development.You can pre-order the record from today From the Mondo website.

That is correct! Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will feature custom PlayStation 5 hardware.
