All monthly data is based on sales from November 27 to December 31, 2022, unless otherwise noted. Includes third party digital sales where applicable.
December 2022
of switch was the top-selling model in December. However, while hardware numbers weren’t given, hardware was up 18% year-over-year due to increased supply of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox series. The PlayStation 5 ($399/$499) was the top seller, with the Switch ($199/$299/$349) winning the silver medal in that race.
Nintendo didn’t make a new retail release in December, but its November release was still a great gun. It became the second best-selling game after the Fair 2 remake. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is No. 9, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is No. 15, Nintendo Switch Sports (a $40 game) is No. 16, Animal Crossing: New Horizon is No. 18, and Splatoon 3 rounds out Nintendo-published entries. I was. The Switch was the best-selling hardware in the country this year, with the PlayStation 5 leading the dollar race, the same position as in December. Switch has been the best-selling hardware (in units) in the US every year since its launch.
In terms of software, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet hit number six on the yearly charts, followed in order by Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Remake, Elden Ring, Madden NFL 23, God of War: Ragnarok, and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
