The top of the NPD Group’s hardware and software charts doesn’t seem to change, but this month’s survey has a lot of action below.
Unless otherwise stated, all data is based on sales from May 29th to July 2nd. Includes some third-party digital sales.
The Switch was the best-selling console in the United States in terms of number of units during the period and maintained its lead in the first half of 2022. PlayStation5 was at the top of the charts in both categories based on revenue.
When it comes to software, Nintendo’s two debut games are both in the top 20. Mario Strikers Battle League (June 10th) is in 3rd place, and Fire Emblem Warrior: Three Hope (June 24th) is in 16th place. Third parties (and possibly expansions) using the new software also saw Monster Hunter Rise rise to 13th place (from May 30th) thanks to the Sunbreak expansion, followed by Sega’s Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. I came in 14th place. Launch, and Sonic Origins will land on the 17th.
For catalog software, Nintendo’s entries are arranged as follows: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 6th, Nintendo Switch Sports 7th, Kirby and Forgotten Land 8th, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 15th, Pokemon Legend : Arseus 18th. For third parties, LEGO Star Wars: Skywalker Saga maintained second place in June (tracking only Elden Ring for two consecutive months), MLB The Show 22 fourth place, Overwatch 5th place (Overwatch 2 Beta).
