hello! This is his Yuts, a member of the game development collective Geography of Robots.
released the first game Norco It’s now coming to consoles with the help of publisher Raw Fury. This game is his first person point and click adventure in classic style. Snatcher, Rise of the DragonWhen déjà vuYou play as Kay, a transient young woman who returns to her hometown of Norco, Louisiana after the death of her mother, only to discover that her brother has gone missing. Through this narrative, players explore a mysterious and surreal depiction of Southern Louisiana filled with a confused ditch seer, influencer her cult, distributed meat AI, and other visions of the alternate present . Winning her first-ever Tribeca Games Award in 2021 and winning the “Feature” award at Berlin A Maze fest, we are surprised and very grateful for the recognition the game is receiving.
The game started as an unofficial geography project following Hurricane Katrina. I traveled through southern Louisiana with a close friend, taking photos and conducting interviews to understand how the storm affected our home. There was a particular focus on both the town and the surrounding “River Parish” area. We ran this project from 2007 to 2010. From there, I started experimenting with open source libraries online and learning pixel art and basic game design. I used it to prototype a side-scroller based loosely on the observations and research I’ve been collecting. Around this time, he started collaborating with the sound artist “Gewgawly I”, and the scale of the project rapidly expanded.
Around 2020, after signing with Raw Fury, Aaron Gray joined and helped port the game from the JavaScript library to Unity. Jesse Jacobi, a great traditional painter, joined our crew the following year to help with pixel art. By the time the game released in March, we had a small team and a supportive community. We’ve spent the last few months adding quality-of-life features to the game. These include combat bypass. “Expert Mode” for players who want more challenging puzzles. Custom fonts; hopefully console players will find it comfortable and intuitive.
Norco is currently available on Game Pass for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. Enjoy!
