Where are Nvidia’s priorities these days? Believe it or not, the company recently said at the Future Computer conference that it spends more time on the software side than the hardware.
Twitter user @7innivator (opens in new tab) (via swe rockers (opens in new tab)) highlighted an interesting quote from Nvidia’s Director of Enterprise Computing, Manuvir Das. “At Nvidia, hardware is where he spends 20% of his time and software is where he spends 80%,” he told conference attendees.
Considering Nvidia is in the middle of launching its new RTX 40 series GPUs, it’s hard to imagine an 80/20 split. (opens in new tab)Das’ statement is a reminder that Nvidia has other problems, and graphics cards are only part of what Nvidia is trying to achieve.
In addition to its impressive DLSS supersampling and framerate generation tech, Nvidia recently launched a new modding platform called RTX Remix. (opens in new tab)This allows modders to easily add AI-enhanced RTX mods to traditional DirectX 8 and DirectX 9 games. We are also developing more consumer-focused AI-assisted video tools such as RTX Broadcast. (opens in new tab).
AI was a hot topic at the conference, with Nvidia executives calling artificial intelligence a “full-stack problem” that required solutions from both the hardware and software sides. AI also plays a big role in Nvidia’s Omniverse platform. It leverages the computing power of GPUs, such as creating Digital Earth 2. (opens in new tab)
“We continually work on our algorithms to understand what the hardware can and cannot do.
