Nvidia has announced its version, ACE for Games. Omniverse Avatar Cloud Enginecreate, power, and voice NPCs in your game in real time.
CEO Jensen Huang explained that ACE for Games integrates text-to-speech, natural language understanding, or, as Huang puts it, “basically a large language model,” and facial animation. . All are under the umbrella of ACE.
Essentially, an AI-created NPC listens to player input (such as asking the NPC a question), generates in-character responses, says that dialogue aloud, and animates the NPC’s face. .
Huang also showcased the technology in a real-time demo built with Unreal Engine 5. Of course, it’s set in a cyberpunk setting (sorry, Katie), so the player enters a ramen shop and talks to the owner. . The owner has no scripted dialogue, but responds to player questions in real time and sends them out on makeshift missions.
It’s pretty impressive, and definitely something to consider in how games utilize this technology in the future. As Huang puts it, “AI is going to be a huge part of the future of video games.”
Of course he would say yes. Nvidia is the company most likely to benefit from a surge in AI demand from the sale of AI accelerators. And where Chris added his ChatGPT to his Skyrim companions, like when he couldn’t solve a simple puzzle, there are already some basic integrations of his ChatGPT into the game. was seen But this new his ACE platform looks more sophisticated and appropriately real-time.
What we don’t know is what it took to run the ACE for Games demo. More than your average GeForce GPU to run today, or may require cloud-based components. Huang was a bit short on details, but we’ll be hearing more about this tool as some games are making moves to actually use it. So far there is no talk of that happening, but I would love to see this in action outside of the demo.
