Based on the huge success of the 2021 Xbox Game Studios derby, where Rare faced off against Playground Games, 2023 supersizes the football-based prank under the name SpecialEffect! The teams will meet at St George’s Park in the heart of England on Wednesday 26th April to play football around the clock and raise money for charity.
This ambitious event will see the first football face-off FIFA Rare and playground matches. It evolved into a real football game in 2021 and is now a multi-studio hours-long effort, with all proceeds going to the game’s charity, SpecialEffect.

Two of the 24 teams will start playing on Wednesday, April 26th at 6pm UTC. All 24 teams, including teams like Rare, Playground, EA, and Sumo, will be assigned a red or blue team color. Each team’s stint on the pitch lasts 90 minutes, with all teams representing either the Red or Blue team. All goals scored by each team will contribute to an epic battle between the reds and blues, with the final whistle and scoreline set at 6pm on Thursday 27th April.
