Season 3 kicks off Wednesday with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. As Morgan observed last week, it could be the first big update to please players of both games, though his one change to Warzone 2 could be somewhat controversial. One hit he revived sniping.
“Expect the return of the one-shot sniper rifle,” said the Warzone 2 team. blog post (opens in new tab) Today, “under certain attachment and platform conditions.”
The reaction I’m seeing is mostly positive. Making Warzone 2 more like Warzone 1 is a theme of Activision’s updates, and it’s a popular one, for better or worse. Many fans of his original Warzone miss the one-shot sniping, and on Reddit he claims that one player posted a funny complaint (opens in new tab)Their sniper-obsessed squad members spend years in vain trying to counter-snipe other snipers, but neither can score the Killing Shot.
“Snipers were borderline useless and very situational,” they said. “Needless to say, I’m super excited for my buddy to get away with carnage even faster. This is a very welcome change. Thank God.”
However, players have also expressed concerns that Warzone 2’s movement speed makes one-hit sniping frustrating. There’s still a lot of uncertainty here: How hard will it be to get the attachments I want? What will the range and bullet velocity be? We’ll find out on Wednesday.

Warzone 2 Season 3 adds mid-season Ranked Play, 5 new guns, a new Gulag map, and more. This blog post (opens in new tab)with the addition of Season 3 of Modern Warfare 2.
I’m not a Warzone player, so there are no horses in this race. I can see both sides: I love sniping in games and it’s frustrating when a beautiful long-range shot can tag an enemy and easily escape. I hate it. Life is full of contradictions.
I still play Modern Warfare 2 Team Deathmatch on a regular basis, but being in my late 30s, I’m excited about Season 3’s night map. My only fear is that the Tempus Trent Marksman Rifle introduced in Season 2 will be nerfed.
