Overwatch 2 designer Geoff Goodman has left Activision Blizzard.
according to PC gamerGoodman was the lead hero designer behind many of Overwatch’s most popular characters, but “decided to leave Blizzard earlier this year”.
“We thank Jeff for his many years of service at Blizzard and wish him the best of luck,” the company said in a statement to PC Gamer. “His ability to bring Overwatch’s diverse roster of heroes to life through gameplay is astounding, and his mark on the Warcraft and Overwatch teams will be felt for years to come. prize.”
Goodman’s involvement with Overwatch goes back to the beginning. He was part of the era of Blizzard’s project Titan, his MMO that eventually became his Overwatch as we know it today.
For Overwatch, he helped rework Doomfist and Orisa, and designed new heroes Sojourn and Junker Queen. He may also have helped design many heroes in the upcoming sequel, Overwatch 2.
No reason was given for Goodman’s resignation, but his departure is the result of a number of high-profile resignations following Blizzard’s harassment and discrimination lawsuit. Come to think of it, this must be a blow.
Notably, Overwatch 2 is less than a month away from launching on October 4th, 2022.
Of course, much of Goodman’s work on the sequel has already been done, and the hero designs for Overwatch’s newcomers are in place. We’re going to need a lot of new heroes…and losing Goodman isn’t ideal.
When it comes to Overwatch 2 heroes, the new Battle Pass system adds new heroes to the game’s Battle Pass, unlockable at the free level 50 tier.
“Each of Overwatch 2’s heroes has distinct strengths and weaknesses, some heroes are more effective against others, but less hard counters and a wider selection of effective heroes And I believe it will make the game better and more fun.” A blizzard of statements.
Whether or not this will work remains to be seen. However, it looks like Blizzard will need to find a new protagonist designer sooner or later.
