Last of Us— The zombie apocalypse game, you may have heard of it — finally released on PC this week. But that means the game isn’t at its best, at least at launch.
At the time of posting, the game has only 33% positive ratings on Steam. This number and time frame has little to do with the quality of the game itself, it all has to do with the state in which it was released. Player complaints are many, but they boil down to a few broad issues:
To freeze: The game locks in all sorts of random locations, sometimes alone, sometimes with Steam (or the whole PC).
CTDs: The game crashes frequently on many users’ desktops.
performance: Players complain that the game overtaxes the CPU instead of the GPU, resulting in performance not as smooth as it should be compared to the system.

mouse stuttering: Now this is funny. Apparently, using keyboard+mouse causes stutter. Using a gamepad removes this. So are there any control-based performance hits? unknown port as well).
Some of my favorite Steam reviews include:
Wow this runs like crap
Worst PC port I’ve ever seen. I’ve waited 10 years for the game to avoid all walkthrough videos, reviews, spoilers, etc. This lame excuse for porting ruined all the excitement I had for the game. I’ve been building shaders for almost 2 hours now. Crash in main menu while building shaders every 5 minutes.
Awful optimization. The game consumes over 8 gigs of his VRAM on medium settings, with 100% CPU usage in the menu. And the temperature is also quite high. You will probably get your money back soon.
Pre-purchased & pre-loaded. As soon as it was ready, I launched it. Went to settings. This game turned out to be consuming nearly 10 GB of his VRAM at 1440p max settings (the game’s default settings are max). I’m running an RTX 3080 Ti with 12GB of VRAM. I was stuck in a menu screen that always crashed when the “BUILDING SHADERS” notification appeared in the bottom right corner of the game.
While we expect this issue to be fixed (or at least improved) in the coming months, it’s starting to become an unfortunate pattern with many of Sony’s big PlayStation ports facing performance issues on PC. increase. horizon It was a mess, unknown Suffered many of these same problems And now this. Sure, there’s encouragement there too—horizon You’ve overcome your early struggles to have a great experience on PC, but those bad first impressions aren’t helping anyone.
For what it’s worth, Naughty Dog responded to the issue, stating:
Dear The Last of Us Part I PC Players: We have heard your concerns and our team is actively investigating the multiple issues you have reported. Our team is prioritizing updates and will address the issue in a future patch.
