As the sun sets in this bleak year of 2022, we’re given to look back and think of all the things we have to be grateful for. It means going through all the game consoles that have been released and picking your favorite tech from different categories.
And what do you know? This includes this year’s graphics cards, in a way that really makes sense. We paid lip service to GPUs last year, when they existed mostly in a theoretical sense rather than a physical sense, but now we can actually buy new cards. That said, while still very expensive if you want to take advantage of the latest generation, the last generation GPUs are now really affordable. Especially if you’re looking at the AMD side of the graphics card split.
Desktop gaming monitors also began to see OLED panel technology for the first time, as both Samsung and LG began shipping screens on displays from the likes of Alienware and Corsair. More or less, it must be said…
New generations of CPUs have arrived from both Intel and AMD, but AMD has done away with the venerable AM4 socket and removed the freakishly flexible pins on the chip. Instead, you have to worry about the errant thumb being plugged into a socket on your AMD motherboard. Dr. Su gives, Dr. Su takes away.
It’s also the year of the Steam Deck. This is tech we love for all its flaws and faint junks, and it’s one of the most PC-bits of hardware released this year. And it’s a ridiculous handheld.
But without further ado, here are the winners of PC Gamers’ annual hardware awards. Bringing you the best hardware of 2022.
