Phasmophobia developer Kinetic Games has released an updated roadmap outlining its development plans for the rest of 2022 through 2023. It was also revealed that the game’s long-awaited Custom Difficulty is coming with a big update this month.
“We packed a lot of extra stuff and even some new stuff [REDACTED] For you to enjoy, all will be revealed when the update trailer drops soon,” the post says. According to the updated roadmap, which includes a new map Sunny Meadows along with a reporting system.
It was originally scheduled for release earlier this year, but was delayed due to the complexity of Phasmophobia’s VR rework. The team has instead released a few smaller minor his patches with new ghosts, overhauled trucks, new spots to hide from ghosts, and a little content in between.
A difficulty update will be released this month, but what else is coming this year? Effects and volumetric lighting are introduced. In games where spookiness is everything, more environments are always welcome.
That URP update consists of what was supposed to be delivered in this year’s upcoming Progression Update, but exaggerated and expanded as its own.
The 2023 bit of the roadmap has room for three progress updates, including new player models, new equipment, a new version of the leveling system, and new challenges to master. Kinetic called it “the greatest programming and art overhaul Phasmophobia has ever undergone, with many systems, models and animations being completely reworked or created from scratch.” The idea behind splitting that material into three updates is to avoid one major overhaul patch that would take six months or more.
Later 2023 updates include Horror 2.0, new locations and new equipment. What does Horror 2.0 mean? I’m already afraid, thanks. “We replace all ghost models and add dozens of new effects, events, sounds and interactions to scare you,” he says Kinetic.
