Pixar’s Inside Out hit theaters in 2015 and focused on personifying human emotions, manipulating people’s bodies like giant machines. A sequel was announced at the D23 Expo. Details are still scarce, but we do know that Amy Poehler will be back. The film is called Inside Out 2 and continues to focus on Riley, the human girl from the first film and now a teenager. There’s no casting information, and no indication as to who might be returning in addition to Poehler.
The original story focused on joy, voiced by Amy Poehler, and sadness, voiced by Phyllis Smith of The Office, demonstrating that they alone cannot fully sustain one person’s happiness. They were joined by Bill Hader as Fear, Mindy Kaling as Hater, and Louis Black as Fury. There was also a deeply traumatic scene with a fictional elephant-like man named Big Bon (Richard Kind). Trust us, it was a tearjerker.

This is just one of the major Disney and Pixar-related announcements at D23 today. In the early afternoon, the first trailer for Hocus Pocus 2 was released, and Jamie Lee Curtis (and possibly Jared Leto) has been added to the cast for the upcoming Haunted Mansion movie. Meanwhile, a new teaser for the live-action version of The Little Mermaid has been released.
D23 Expo will continue into the weekend, and expect more major announcements, announcements and trailers from Disney itself, Marvel and Star Wars as the convention progresses.
