The PlayStation Showcase was mostly focused on games, but Sony also made some hardware announcements. One of those announcements was a set of earbuds and another was a dedicated streaming device codenamed “Project Q.”
The PlayStation Showcase 2023 event had about an hour of announcements and reveals. It can all get rough…
What is Project Q?
Project Q is a mobile device that can only stream titles from the PlayStation 5 via Remote Play or Wi-Fi, and cannot play games natively. Not only does it have all the usual PlayStation buttons, but it also has adaptive triggers and haptic feedback similar to the DualSense, making it look surprisingly similar. It also has an 8-inch HD screen, though it wasn’t clear what kind of screen it was. The trailer mentions that the game must be installed on his PS5, meaning he can’t stream PlayStation Plus Premium titles.
No word on how much it will cost or when it will go on sale. However, more information will be published in the future.
The device was rumored in April, with insider Tom Henderson pointing out that Sony is developing a streaming device codenamed Q Lite. This was described as his DualSense-like handheld with an 8-inch screen in the center, but it turned out to be very accurate. The report also stated that games could be played at up to 1080p, but Sony did not confirm such specs.
