Gamers may have to wait a while longer to get their hands on it Sony’s Project Q PlayStation HandheldHowever, thanks to leaked footage, we can now see the portable PlayStation in action. A leaked Project Q video shows some images of the handset along with what appears to be an early version of the rumored final hardware ahead of his November release of Project Q.
Leaked Project Q video shows portable PlayStation in action for the first time
As originally reported, insider game, a series of images and a short video clip of Sony’s mobile terminal project Q have been published online. Images showing both the completed and disassembled Project Q reportedly came from a factory that makes Sony handsets. Following the release of the images, a leaked video showing Project Q’s system software was posted online by his Twitter user Zuby_Tech.
The leaked Project Q video doesn’t show the game in action on Sony’s PlayStation streaming handheld, but it does give potential buyers a glimpse of just how agile the software is. Running on what appears to be a custom version of Android, the system appears surprisingly responsive as the photographer navigates multiple menus using both analog sticks and the touchscreen. A half-empty battery icon on the system’s home screen could support reports of poor Project Q battery life, but it’s too early to tell at this point.
Sony’s unconventional approach to handheld gaming with Project Q is a big bet, as it’s designed to stream players’ existing PS5 libraries rather than playing standalone games like Nintendo’s Switch. But with PS5 sales continuing to grow in multiple markets, it could be profitable if Sony can pitch the idea of gaming on the go to PS5 owners. However, the financial uncertainty in recent months has forced many to build their budgets, and even if Project Q, as rumored, costs less than $300, the asking price may be too high for many players’ pockets.
