road X-Men: The Animated Series (opens in new tab) Narrowing the essence of the mutants’ sizeable cast down to a series of vignettes only a few seconds long, it remains a masterclass in comic introduction. was definitely paying attention.
Each hero flaunts their powers and poses near custom-made nameplates that look like they’re on the cover of the Solo miniseries. The team then assembles to face the assembled villain directly. It’s so good that I want to play it every time the game loads.
The prequel short is five videos that introduce the core members of this Midnight Sun incarnation: Hunter, Scarlet Witch, Magic, Blade, Ghost Rider, Nico, and their mentor Caretaker and their opponents. Mother demon of a certain Lilith. Video games don’t take place in exactly the same continuum as the comics, they have their own backstory, so it’s nice to have this extra context even if you’re only watching it now, 60 hours into the game (And it’s still Act Two. See, I spend a lot of time each night looking for the damn cat.)
Episode 1 embedded above has the same animation style as the intro, but later episodes switch to a more rotoscoping style. This would be perfect for a Ghost Rider episode. Robbie Reyes’ vengeful spirit incarnate is his image of a sweet car chase in his blazing hot rod. There seems to be something wrong with the framerate in the last two episodes introducing Blade and Nico Minoru. At first I thought it was my internet connection, but after bravely watching YouTube comments Pit of Despair, I’m not the only one who noticed the constant speed up and down It seems that.
Still, these 5 videos are a great bonus for anyone who enjoys playing video games. As Jeremy Peel said in his review, “This is Marvel fantasy, so every hero on your roster can single-shot a minion without breaking a sweat. This is an opportunity to flex your opponents by throwing them into explosives.Hit barrels with Ghost Rider’s flaming chains, or turn their heads upside down on piles of New York newspapers. If you have the chance to tip a more important henchman, shave their health bar down until you can. Firaxis clearly spent hours trying to convey the impact of each collision: the audiovisual FX equivalent of Golden Age comics’ bright red caps THWACK.”
The other side of Midnight Suns is an intense downtime simulation in which you explore, solve puzzles, and search for collectibles the monastery grounds home to a mysterious pocket dimension. It’s also the place to chill your buds with an in-depth friendship simulation that includes figuring out exactly which hangouts and gifts characters like Wolverine and Captain Marvel like most.
It’s a huge game, and even before the addition of DLC that throws in Storm, Morbius, Venom, and Deadpool as playable characters, it’s as packed as a crossover event.
