To celebrate the holiday season each year, the Epic Games Store speeds up its weekly game giveaways (opens in new tab) With daily drops, new games will be available to play for free every morning. So far the product has been good. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t want to take anything away from Horizon Chase Turbo or Costume Quest 2.
But buddy, they ain’t Sable (opens in new tab)In his review of the game, Nat Clayton declared “Sable’s lonely, heartfelt journey of self-discovery will stay with me for the rest of my life”, giving it an enviable 93% score. Currently, Epic Games Store (opens in new tab)today, December 18, until tomorrow at 11am ET / 8am PT / 4pm GMT.
After years of following the development of this chilling open-world exploration game, I remember being blown away every time developer Shedworks shared a new snippet of gameplay footage. A tribute to influential French illustrator Jean Giraud Moebius, Sable’s cel-shading art style is a revelation about the order of his look in Windhis Waker breakout. Gameplay aside, Sable is nothing more than a visual feast that must be experienced.
Sable doesn’t have a massive open world, but it’s spacious enough. The game only offers a fraction of the map at a time, a great trick of Breath of the Wild, and for me he’s the same kind of demon that was the highlight of BotW’s gameplay. Puzzles and platforming are full of his challenges. Peak Sable encounters some kind of stone ruins and crashed spaceships in an unexpected ruin, seeking secrets and treasures deep within.
Sable was previously available on PC Game Pass, but retired in October. Even if Epic isn’t your main launcher, it’s worth logging in and getting him Sable if you don’t already have it. I played it on Steam when it launched, and I’m envious of people trying it for the first time.
