Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s Day 1 update landscape is complex, and whether you’re on a PlayStation 5, Xbox series, or PC, you may have to download a hefty patch.
EA announced on Twitter (below) that it will be releasing a day one patch for Survivor that addresses some performance issues, but some PC players are reporting huge file sizes.flat some players Users who preloaded the game on Steam are reporting up to 128 GB of launch day updates.
EA also released patches throughout the week before launch. This means that there may be missed updates depending on when the user preloaded. For example, IGN’s first day update on PC was 46.5 GB. That’s far less than some PC users’ experience, but it’s still a great addition for those looking to enjoy the game on launch day.

The first patch will be delivered on launch day on all platforms. In the coming weeks we will be rolling out patches such as:

– increase performance
– Added more accessibility… pic.twitter.com/pUtyoGopP5— EA Star Wars (@EAStarWars) April 26, 2023
Users who preloaded the game on PS5 and Xbox series should have the smoothest experience. Because the first day patches here are only a few GB each (you might also download a mid-week patch that adds a few GB). ).
However, purchasing Survivor on disc is a completely different story, as it requires a large download for users to start playing the game. This is because the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of Survivor have a file size greater than 100 GB, which can be stored on the Blu-ray discs used in the game.
The PS5 has a base install size of 147.9 GB and the Xbox Series X has 134 GB, with the rest of the data added to the game through a separate download. It’s basically the same as when Red Dead Redemption 2 or Grand Theft Auto 5 came with an install disc and a play disc, but the install disc is now a download. This also means that despite being a single-player game, Survivor cannot be played without an internet connection.

This is advertised on the front of the box in some regions (as in the tweet above), while in others it’s kept in small print. An internet connection is required to download,” reads the terms and conditions on the back of the UK version. “Internet connection required for mandatory content updates.”
This repeats in-game Official FAQ“Players who purchased a physical copy of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will need to be connected to the internet to install the Day 1 patch, but will be able to play offline afterward.”
It’s unclear how large this download will be for disc players, but based purely on math, it’s a minimum of 47.9 GB for PS5 and 34 GB for Xbox Series X. When asked for a specific number.
As mentioned in the EA tweet above, these complex Day 1 updates aren’t the last in a series of patches for Survivor. “Over the next few weeks, we will be fixing bugs, improving performance, [and] We will add more accessibility features.”
That said, after installing everything on day one, you should be back to a more familiar (and simple) process. These patches should also be fairly small on consoles, but on PC it could be a different story. For example, the PC version of The Last of Us Part 1 received his 7th update in a month, which was a rather large 25 GB.
With Survivor all installed and players finally able to start playing, it should be a pretty fun time. IGN gave the game a 9/10 rating in their review, stating:
