Five years after its original release, Quake Champions has finally exited Early Access. The full release of id Software’s free-to-play shooter comes at the same time as several games are coming to PC Game Pass, announced at his QuakeCon event in Bethesda today.
First released in 2017, Quake Champions is the evolution of id Software’s classic arena shooter. Asked by the community why he didn’t receive the full release when it became free-to-play in 2018, his developer Joshua Boyle said Quake Champions wasn’t ready.
“I think we were crawling [at launch last year] We’re taking a walk now,” Boyle said at the time.
Quake Champions has been generally well received on Steam, but even with the addition of familiar faces like Doom Slayer and Wolfenstein’s BJ Blazkowicz, like any free-to-play shooter in general, the It never took hold among fans.
Quake Champions is currently available on Steam, but can also be downloaded from the Microsoft Store along with Daggerfall. Meanwhile, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Wolfenstein 3D, Elder Scrolls Legends: Battlespire, and TES Adventures: Redguard are all headed to PC Game Pass, and Death Stranding may be joining us soon.
Meanwhile, QuakeCon also gave us another glimpse of Redfall, featuring a mission so large it could cover the entire Prey space station.
