When Nintendo introduced the Miis concept in 2006, I don’t think anyone expected cute avatars to still exist more than 15 years later.
Even now, in 2023, he’s still making a splash on Switch, appearing as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Nintendo Switch Sports, and more.
But for one 3D illustrator, the Miis concept has proven useful to learn the ropes using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5. Nick Ladd, who creates art and animation in VR, uses this software to create his characters. A creation tool “Lil Ladds” that allows you to create your own “Laddie” using different head shapes, eyes, mouths, noses, etc. from his attached catalogue.
