Red Dead Redemption 2 has broken records for the highest number of concurrent players on PC since its launch three years ago.
As reported by euro gamer, SteamDB shows that Red Dead Redemption 2 hit 66,492 concurrent players on November 24th. This significantly surpassed his previous record of 55,271 set on December 26, 2019, shortly after his November 5 PC release of the title.
The recent surge in player numbers may have been fueled by Steam’s seasonal fall sale, which saw the game drop by 67%. Publisher Take-Two Interactive revealed earlier this year that Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold over 45 million copies since its release to date.
Despite its undeniable success, developer Rockstar Games announced in July that Red Dead Online would no longer receive “themed content updates.” This is because development resources were directed towards creating Grand Theft Auto 6 instead.
A week after the announcement, devoted fans held a funeral for Red Dead Online, where members of the community dressed in black and paid their respects.
In a 10/10 review, IGN said Red Dead Redemption 2 was “a patient, sophisticated, gorgeous portrayal of an ugly era that was extremely fun to play, and one of Rockstar’s best games to date.” It’s combined with storytelling,” he said.
