It Takes Two is a pretty famous game by now. Since its initial release, it has received many accolades and various awards, including Best Multiplayer of 2021 and Game of the Year. Finally available on Nintendo Switch. I was really excited to try this out as I am always looking for games that I can play with my partner. Not to mention, this is the perfect co-op game for couples. I had a lot of fun during the playthrough. But while many aspects of this game were great, I was still craving something else.
It Takes Two is a fun game, but the story is a bit dark. The main characters of this game are May and Cody, a married couple on the brink of divorce. Their little daughter, Rose, overhears this news and is visibly shaken by her.She leaves the house and sneaks into the backyard tool shed. I found an old book written by She opens her book and seeks help from a doctor while wishing her parents to be together forever. She then cries some tears falling on some nearby dolls.Scene fades out to white and voila! Mei and Cody are in doll bodies. It’s kind of crazy Disney magic, but it works for this story.

Upon waking, May and Cody are completely blindsided and realize they are toys. Of course, they start arguing, but are interrupted by the capricious Dr. Hakim. It takes the form of a “love book” that Rosé made a wish in the previous work. And I’ll say it, he’s very annoying. May and Cody agree with me, but it’s the only way for Dr. Hakim to return to their true bodies. He tells them that in order to return, they need to work together to repair their relationship.

May and Cody have no intention of complying, but must work together to get out of this situation. Being about 4 inches tall actually has a downside. But thanks to this shift in perspective, everything and everywhere you go seems like a whole new experience. In terms of adventure, it can only be compared to the movie Honey We Shrunk Ourselves. You and two players will explore each area and use the tools provided to progress through each level.

for example. In the tool shed, May and Cody find a set of hammers and nails. Mei ties a hammer to her back so she can smash things, and Cody throws a nail that she can grab with the backside of the hammer, allowing Mei to swing and reach hard-to-reach places. to pave the way for Cody to move on, rinse, and repeat. Think like Pikmin. More… in the suburbs.

Weapons and items available depend on the area you are in. His one of my favorite gadgets was a fidget spinner. Cody and May wear these like backpacks and can propel them through the air. Encounter a gang of angry squirrels. It’s all very random and you never know what’s around the corner. It’s also fun to listen to May and Cody’s jokes when they’re trying to figure something out. As far as Rose is concerned, she is home alone with the soulless shell of her parents’ bodies while they try to figure this out. Pretty crazy, right?

As far as performance goes, I had no issues during my playthrough. And honestly, I kind of expected it. The game ran smoothly and looked amazing on two screens, regardless of how far we were going. I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. All of the locations you explore are highly detailed, memorable, and interactive. You can press buttons on gadgets around the house, turn on the lava lamp or TV. It does nothing but makes the world feel more alive and real. My favorite part of It Takes Two is that it uses the local bugs and small animals to travel through water and air. It was a lot of fun.

All characters are also fully voiced, adding a lot of personality and humor to the game. The game needs to be enjoyed on the big screen, so it’s recommended to play in docked mode. It can be difficult to see what you’re doing in such a small area.
It Takes Two may look like a cartoon, or it may look easy from the looks of it. But this game definitely comes with challenges. You’re not going anywhere if you and your teammates aren’t in sync. This game is the true definition of co-op. Both players must lose weight. There is no such thing as “taking the initiative” or “best player”. Just like in real life relationships, each has a job to do. hence the name of the game 😉

My only problem with It Takes Two is that despite having the opportunity to explore all of these wonderful areas full of detail, there’s nothing to look for. It would have been nice to collect. There are a few interspersed mini-games you can play together, but nothing too exciting. It would be great if May and Cody were able to find things that were misplaced or lost around the yard or the house, such as jewelry, coins, old socks. That made me want to explore each area more, but I knew there was nothing in particular to look for, so I headed straight for the finish line. The game looks good, but you stop looking for secret stuff when you realize there are none.

Otherwise, It Takes Two has everything you need for a cooperative game. Challenging levels, awesome bosses, puzzles, variety and a really nice world to explore. It’s a great game that you can play with anyone and you have the option to play it in several different ways. Split screen, local wireless or online. Honestly, it felt more authentic and relatable playing with someone I had actually been in a relationship with. It’s worth doing.

Whether you’ve bought It Takes Two before, or if you’re new to the game like I am, the Nintendo Switch version is a great game to add to your library, and it’s a great game for you and your special someone. It could even be something new and fun to do on a rainy day, or on a weekly date night. Even though I really liked some of the side quests and collectibles, it was still a fun time playing It Takes Two. It is recommended!
