MADiSON is a first-person horror game full of jump scares. MADiSON reminded me a lot of ‘Outlast’, but there was an interesting part about walking around in this thriller with a camera.
You play as Luka and wake up to a horrific scream and find your hands covered in blood. As the game progresses, you learn the truth about the atrocities you committed. When the game started, I expected a lot of combat and brutal battles with zombies, people, or both. It was a first-person mystery that took pictures, recounted events, and brightened things up.
MADiSON is a great looking game (albeit gory) and I did my best to describe it as best I could. Within 30 seconds, you’ll see multiple photos of a severed arm, and blood splatters almost every room you encounter. Each scene takes you into the mindset of this horror world. is ready.
Aside from the world design, what really stands out about this game is the jump scares. He searches for a random crevice for 1 second and someone jumps out. I jumped many times. Playing this game at night also helped. Just like in a horror movie, mixing in horror at the right time and overdoing it sets a good tone to lessen the impact.
I had a few knocks with the game, one, which may be due to my 34 year old eyes, was that the game was completely too dark. I played on handheld and TV, so I needed the screen to be as bright as possible. There were times when I didn’t know what was going on. On top of that, the design of the game set us back quite a bit. This happens in mystery games and I can accept that, but coupled with the inability to see it causes frustration. Having to double-check every move and search every area in every room slowed progress considerably.
All things considered, this is a fun game for those who like the horror genre. The jump scares and graphics will appeal to anyone who is a fan of these types of games and movies. The incorporation of the camera was an interesting dynamic that set it apart from other titles such as ‘Layers of Fear’ and ‘Outlast’. The brightness issue clouded my enjoyment and took me out of the feeling I got with each progress. I enjoyed playing niche games.
