RAILGRADE is a Strategy Simulation developed by Minakata Dynamics and published by Epic Games. This title is about building and managing a railway station. Let’s discuss how this stands out from many other railroad sims on the market.
As a management sim, RAILGRADE has a decent story. You play as the administrator of Nakatani Chemicals Co., Ltd. Your job is to help restore industrial production by transporting resources to the various colonies. In a nutshell, the planet is crumbling and needs to be rebuilt.
In a way, the story is unique. Games with stories like this typically receive and use resources. So it feels like another take on the classic “save the world” trope. The story ends relatively quickly and it feels like there’s no longer any reason to play Railgrade.
Before getting into the gameplay, the first few levels are tutorials. The tutorial is well done and easy to understand. This simulation game has a layout similar to most games, with info boxes and control panels wrapping around the screen. While it looks intimidating, the tutorial does a good job of explaining the game’s various mechanics without being overwhelming.
The gameplay becomes more repetitive after a while. Even if you’re still doing the main story tasks, it’s not engaging enough for long play sessions. Many mechanics make the train management sim unique.
There is more than one way to pass a level. The goal is more or less the same across levels where you have to get resources from point A to point B. You can plan a single train to go straight through it, or you can have multiple levels of tracks with multiple trains running at the same time. Efficient without colliding with each other.
RAILGRADE also allows you to unlock different types of trains. Vouchers are provided for completing Corporation tasks in-game. Trains can be unlocked or upgraded, among other fun features such as additional music tracks. However, getting more trains is definitely a plus. It has different characteristics such as speed level and good ability to move on certain tracks such as inclines. Additionally, different trains will boost your strategy in each level.
In fact, the gameplay is somewhat repetitive later on, so the different trains add replayability. increase.
Overall, RAILGRADE has a lot to offer. The tutorial is good and the gameplay is fun for a while. It is very satisfying to see the train move on its own. The music is bop and the controls are intuitive and smooth. If you’re looking for a modest management sim (and enjoy trains), give this game a try.
