“The Crackpet Show” is definitely an original title, and the title is just as crazy as the gameplay. In this fast-paced shooter, players take on the roles of various (cracked-looking) animals battling through episodes of a crazy post-apocalyptic game show. Shoot your way through tons of insane obstacles, monsters and bosses to reach the final episode and become the champion. American Ninja he is similar to the Warrior show, except that Crackpet he dies if he fails in the show. It’s a really fun and frantic concept, with lots of challenges and different routes you can take.
Start by choosing one of four cracked animals. Then select your weapon loadout. Each has different perks and abilities, such as being able to heal or boost attacks. Once the player is ready, the episode begins as they enter an arena where they must defeat a certain number of monsters to advance to the next room. A room is like a level. As you progress through each episode, you can choose which room you want to play in (like a tier system). Some rooms offer different perks, gear, or weapons, but bigger rewards come with bigger challenges.
In combat, you can only shoot while standing still. Sounds weird, but it works. Players automatically lock-on to the closest target and can easily switch between enemies with the trigger button. You will have to dash/roll around many times to avoid all flying enemies and obstacles.
Unlimited ammo for weapons is great, but weapons like shotguns do more damage and take longer between shots. Automatic weapons do less damage, but have a much faster rate of fire. As such, you’ll need to figure out the most effective strategy to get through as many episodes as possible while maintaining as much health as possible. and currency to purchase items.
After completing all the levels of the episode, you can fight the boss. Defeating bosses unlocks new episodes. However, if you die in the middle of an episode or in the final room, you will have to start from the beginning of that episode. So the gameplay can be pretty repetitive, but it’s fast and has that arcade he-type feel to it. It’s kind of fun to see how long you can survive and how far you can go in this insane and morbid game show.
The more you participate in the show, the better your weapons and equipment. With about 10+ hours of gameplay, depending on how you play, there are quite a few episodes to play. Every episode of The Crackpet Show is randomized so he never plays the same run twice. However, it feels the same regardless of subtle changes in enemy patterns. It also allows for local co-op with up to four players. This is really fun because you don’t have to help your teammates all the time. After all, you are fighting for fame here.
The cute, cartoonish art style is one of my favorite parts of The Crackpet Show. The game is pretty violent, but even when the monsters and animals are blowing each other up, it’s so cute it’s hard to see it that way. There is also a lot of humor to give. The gameplay can be repetitive with just quick shoots in all directions, but the rooms and areas you play in are all very vibrant and colorful.
The Crackpet Show is a crazy game with a lot of strategy. The concept of being in a game show run by psychotic animals where your only choice is win or die is very interesting. I had a lot of fun playing it and seeing how far I could go. However, online co-op options, or other modes and mini-games, can have a big impact on the overall experience and add to the longevity of gameplay.
The Crackpet Show is the perfect game for those looking for a frenetic, fast-paced shooter. It can get a little frustrating and repetitive when stuck on a particular episode, but it’s great for game nights with friends or short bursts of gameplay, especially on a portable system like the Switch. Available now on the Nintendo eShop.
