Giant gaming platform Roblox has announced changes to its community standards. A big update is about advertising for kids. An update to the Roblox Community Standards states that Roblox will hide all advertising content for his users under the age of 13.
According to Roblox Corp., anyone creating games within Roblox must understand and follow the rules or action may be taken against their account, including account suspension.
Roblox is making these changes apparently in response to a “Truth in Advertising” complaint filed with the FTC about how Roblox “covertly” sells advertising to children. The organization said Roblox was guilty of “digital fraud” and had not done enough to “ensure true compliance with advertising laws.” GI.Biz.
In addition to rolling out changes to hide ads for users under the age of 13, Roblox has updated the list of “Prohibited Ads” content categories. Among other things, advertising for NFTs and cryptocurrencies is currently prohibited, as is advertising for online dating services. Advertisements of fortune tellers and funerals are also prohibited, as are advertisements of insects, including individual body parts or by-products.
In other news, Roblox Corp. recently revealed that it had $150 million in custody at the ill-fated Silicon Valley Bank, but the company told investors not to worry. The company got it all back when the US government intervened.
