Earlier this year, Charlie ‘Cr1TiKal’ White issued a challenge. He offered $5,000 to anyone who could enable 13 difficulty-modifying Skulls so he could complete a full solo playthrough of Halo 2 on Legendary difficulty. (His 14th skull, called Envy, provides active camouflage in lieu of a flashlight.) Three weeks later, without anyone claiming it, he increased his reward to $20,000.
In the 18 years since Halo 2’s release, no record has ever achieved this feat.Today, after dozens of attempts spread over the previous week, Twitch streamer JerValiN finally completed the challenge (opens in new tab)In just six and a half hours of running, he’s harnessed an incredible amount of skill and tricks and glitches that could bring Banshee to the final battle with Tartarus. Things pretty much leveled out in the final minutes thanks to a shotgun-toting Brute double dodging his grenades, but JerValiN was able to keep it going until the very end.
JerValiN was previously the first person responsible. Running the Halo game Deathless LASO (Legendary All Skulls On) (opens in new tab), Completed Halo 2 with all 14 skulls active, including the Envy skull. That record was his 5:54:40, while his latest feat was his 6:29:44. Seems like a decent way to earn 20 grand.
