The Sonic Machine keeps rolling all the time, but now it rolls in a more familiar way. Sega today announced that Sonic Superstars, a new adventure in the popular series, will be available on PC and consoles this fall, promising to bring “a new standard of play to the classic fast-paced 2D Sonic platformer.”
And judging by the trailer, that promise seems to be fulfilled.
Sonic and his friends’ journey begins in the beautiful Northstar Islands, a mystical location that offers never-before-seen environments and mysterious stories to unfold. Giant creatures, exhilarating adventures and Dr. Eggman’s evil plans await Sonic and his friends. As you collect Chaos His Emeralds, you gain new abilities known as Emerald His Powers.
The main features of the game are:
- The 2D classic Sonic platformer reimagined for current-gen platforms, with new zones, music, gameplay and modern UHD visuals only possible in 3D graphics. Sonic’s movements, physics, and controls are relatable and appealing to new and old fans alike.
You also have the option to play as fan favorites Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy Rose to take on Dr. Eggman, old nemesis Fang and their nefarious plans. Sonic designer Naoto Oshima is also back with new characters that Sonic and his friends will face. - Unlock new abilities such as cloning yourself, climbing waterfalls, power-ups, and more with the power of the 7 Chaos Emeralds.
- With local 4-player co-op, fans can play solo or co-op with friends throughout the campaign.
