South Korea’s Game Ratings and Control Board has leaked a new League of Legends spin-off game called Mageseeker. It is described as an action game in which the player steps into the role of Sylas, a mage trying to save the city of Demacia.
Some background for those who haven’t played League. Cyrus (opens in new tab)came into the game in 2019 and was born poor. Demacia (opens in new tab), a city built on a magic-attenuating mineral called petricto, “as a haven from magic after the nightmare of the Rune Wars”. When Cyrus’ magical abilities were discovered, he became a mage seeker and hunted down the other mages living in the city.
Alas, after discovering that everything in the city is not as good as it seems, he is betrayed by his master, imprisoned, and eventually sentenced to death. With the help of others, he escaped and now roams the frozen tundra of the northern Freljord, searching for allies and followers. He returned to Demacia until he could finally defeat those who bound sorcerers like him in manacles.
The list of Korean rating sites has since been removed, but was captured and shared to Twitter. Sotomatsu (opens in new tab)Unfortunately, not much has been revealed about the game, other than featuring “continuous battle scenes with humans/non-humans”.
according to Osevno (opens in new tab) (via polygon (opens in new tab)), Mageseeker is published by Riot Forge, an initiative launched in 2019 to partner with outside studios to create single-player League of Legends spin-off games.Previous Riot Forge Releases Include Airship Syndicate’s RPG Ruined King (opens in new tab) Rhythm game “Hextech Mayhem” (opens in new tab), from Bit.Trip studio Choice Provisions. However, the leaked list does not indicate who actually developed his Mageseeker. I’ve reached out to Riot to ask about the leak and will update if I hear back.
