Splatoon 3 dominated the Japanese game sales charts with historic numbers.
Nintendo has confirmed that the shooter sequel’s opening weekend sales totaled 3.45 million units. This is Japan’s largest ever weekend opening sale. Total includes digital sales.
The previous Switch record was held by Animal Crossing: New Horizons (1.88 million physical and under 750,000 digital sales according to Famitsu), but the previous best opening weekend was 2010. In total, 2.63 million units were sold with the launch of Pokemon Black and White in 2019. Splatoon 3 has already managed to sell about two-thirds of the Wii U original’s lifetime shipments.
