Squid Shock, the studio behind Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus, has said that updates for the game’s console versions may be delayed due to the sudden closure of its publisher, Humble Games, earlier this month.
The studio relied on Humble for post-launch support, and now needs to find another way to do so. “We are now in a difficult situation when it comes to updating the console ports, as both porting and QA support was tied into our deal Humble,” Squid Shock said in a statement.
“We are actively pursuing all available avenues to allow us to roll out updates to console versions, but we regret to say this may take some time to put in place,” the studio continued. The development team will continue to work on updates for the PC version and assured that they will come to the console versions in the future.
Some studios that have recently had their games published by Humble are facing similar situations. Last week, Coral Island developer Stairway Games responded console backers of the game, as they were upset with the lack of news regarding a Switch version. Due to Humble Games’ shutdown, the developer said that it was uncertain about Coral Island’s future on consoles, and offered Switch backers the option to change to a Steam copy.
Last week, Humble Games abruptly closed, laying off around 36 employees. While Humble said that it was “restructuring,” those impacted disagreed, saying that its parent company, Ziff Davis, was trying to save face. According to one anonymous now former-employee, Ziff Davis and Humble will no longer participate in launching any games.
