BD-1, the droid’s main companion star wars jedi Respawn Entertainment’s series quickly became a fan favorite among Star Wars fans. In a recent post, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor talked about How character noise is recorded live.
What do BD-1 actors do during filming?
Danny Homan, who served as the lead writer for the latest installment of the series, sub stack Share behind-the-scenes information about the game. According to Homan, BD-1 embodies what he believes Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is all about: hope that lasts no matter what.
Homan then shared a photo of actor Gideon Emery playing BD-1 in the game. This was taken during his motion capture shoot for various scenes. The writers revealed that Emery isn’t just following the actor around and performing his BD-1 moves. Cameron Monaghan (Cal Kestis) uses a replica of the BD-1, but also does the actual noise of the character. To accomplish this, Emery wears a nose flute and can make various beeping and beeping sounds as a BD-1.
According to Homan, having Emery on set not only makes long production days more enjoyable, but also gives BD-1 just the right amount of weight and presence that Respawn’s team believes he deserves.
“Despite his diminutive build, BD is one of the emotional foundations of Cal’s journey,” says Homan. “When we were writing the script, we always discussed his BD’s reaction to the important story beats. It was the result of his sharp eyesight.”
